OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Weber County authorities say they plan to pursue the death penalty against a 20-year-old man accused of killing two people at a wedding party last summer.
Sabrina Preito and Resendo Nava Nevarez were killed when Rico Perea allegedly fired 10 shots into a crowd of about 30 during a late-night party in August. Two others were injured.
Perea is charged with two first-degree felony counts of murder. At trial is set for October. A 2nd District court judge has issued a gag order, blocking attorneys from talking about the case.
After a hearing yesterday, Perea's mother and sister were injured in a scuffle inside the courthouse elevator. Police say the people involved were friends of those killed in the shooting.
