SALEM, Utah County — A Mona man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly kidnapping his 4-year-old son and his ex-wife, telling police "God told me to do it," in order to protect them from harm, according to Sgt. Greg Smith of the Salem Police Department.
The Salem Police received a disturbance call Wednesday around 10:35 a.m. regarding Koal Ady, 27, the man who is now in police custody. Ady's ex-wife's current husband made the call, police said.
Ady allegedly took his 4-year-old son and ex-wife from their Salem home in his truck and drove them to Mona, where Ady lives. Police said the two were not taken by force, though they were returned several hours later to their Salem home by Ady's grandmother.
Ady reportedly told police, "God told me to do it," saying he wanted to "protect (my ex-wife and child) from harm."
The Juab County Sheriff's office took Ady into custody without incident later that day, booked into the Utah County Jail on charges of kidnapping, domestic violence in the presence of a child, driving on a suspended license and disorderly conduct.
Police said Ady tested positive for Oxycontin and opiates.
