TOOELE — An ongoing dispute between two men in Tooele culminated with one man shooting the other, which may result in him losing a leg, according to police.
Brandon Greg Martinez, 24, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with aggravated assault resulting in serious injury, mayhem, and illegally shooting a gun, all second-degree felonies.
On Friday, about 11:30 p.m., Tooele police were called to a mobile home park where a 24-year-old man had been shot in the leg, according to a police booking affidavit.
Witnesses told officers that Martinez and the victim "had been in a feud for approximately a year," and on this night, Martinez entered the victim's home without knocking "in an attempt to settle their differences," the affidavit states.
After attempting to reconcile, Martinez left and went to another trailer belonging to a friend. The other man followed, however, and the two men began arguing again in the neighbor's trailer, according to the affidavit. After the men were separated, "Martinez pulled a black handgun from his waistband and fired one round striking the (the other man) in the lower left leg," the affidavit states.
The man who had been shot was taken to a local hospital where "medical staff reported due to the wound, (he) may lose his lower leg," according to the affidavit.
When he was arrested, Martinez allegedly told police that he felt threatened because of the other man's size "and how upset" he was, the affidavit states.
