WEST VALLEY CITY — A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in West Valley City a week ago.
The boy was booked into juvenile detention for investigation of murder and is believed to be the gunman, according to West Valley police.
Just after 11 p.m. on Aug. 9, officers responded to several calls of shots fired in the area of 4200 S. Bluebird Circle, just west of Bangerter Highway. They arrived to find Marcus Garcia, 36, deceased in the middle of the road with an apparent gunshot wound.
Following the shooting, the gunman is believed to have sped away, hitting a car on 4000 West. The uninvolved motorist was not injured and the gunman kept driving.
Originally, police said they believed two people had fled the area. On Wednesday, a police spokeswoman said detectives are not looking for anyone else.
Detectives were able to track the 17-year-old to an undisclosed location in West Jordan. He was taken into custody Monday night, with the assistance of West Jordan police, during a traffic stop.
A motive for the shooting had not been released as of Wednesday.
