SALT LAKE CITY — Four people are being accused of breaking into at least 16 vehicles within three hours in Eagle Mountain, according to police. The Utah County Sheriff's Office said it was investigating reports of vehicle burglaries that happened between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Sunday. According to a police affidavit, the suspects stole at least $720 in cash, electronics, wallets, a financial transaction card, and registration and insurance cards for the broken-in vehicles. "USCO Deputies had obtained videos of the suspects committing the crimes and they were seen driving a dark-colored Tesla car," the office said in a press release. The affidavit stated that one of the items had a tracking device installed in it and was tracked to the juvenile's home in Tooele. Investigators arrived at the juvenile's home with a search warrant and found several of the stolen items inside the house. According to the affidavit, the juvenile identified 18-year-old Colton Roger Jones of Tooele as the driver of the Tesla. Investigators visited Jones's home and found the Tesla in the driveway. Police detained Jones, who did not speak to them after officers read him his Miranda rights. After obtaining a search warrant for Jones's home and vehicle, the affidavit reported that more stolen items were found. Jones eventually told investigators that the other items were with another juvenile suspect, and police were able to retrieve those stolen items. "One of the items with the tracking device showed the exact route that (Jones) drove where he also stopped at McDonald's and attempted to use the card," the affidavit stated. "He also attempted to use the card and three separate transactions on his cell phone." The office said that Jones was booked into the Utah County Jail on suspicion of 18 counts of vehicle burglary-related charges, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, several theft-related charges, criminal mischief, and unlawful use of a financial card. The three juvenile suspects are also being charged with similar crimes, according to the office. "As a reminder, please lock your car doors at night and don’t leave valuables in your vehicles," the office said.
