LOGAN — A Logan man has been charged with being intoxicated when police say he caused a crash that killed a Brigham City father and critically injured another person last week on U.S. 91.
Jorge Luis Robles, 38, was charged Wednesday with negligently operating a vehicle resulting in death, a second-degree felony; negligently operating a vehicle resulting in serious bodily injury, a third-degree felony; driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a class A misdemeanor; and driving on a suspended or revoked license, a class B misdemeanor.
On Sept. 22, police say Robles' Ford F-150 drifted across the center lane into oncoming traffic in the area of 3700 South in Logan and struck multiple vehicles, resulting in one man's death and critically injuring another person.
"Robles was the only occupant of the vehicle and was discovered in the passenger seat while the driver's seat belt was fastened. Robles was transported by ambulance to the Logan Regional Hospital. At the hospital, doctors and nurses stated that based on Robles' physiological behavior, they believe Robles was exhibiting behavior indicative of having an illegal controlled substance in his system," according to a police booking affidavit.
Family members identified the man killed as Joshua William Hansen, 32. In a GoFundMe campaign*established by relatives, family members say he and his wife have a 1-year-old daughter and are expecting a baby boy in December.

"Josh had a special talent for turning strangers into instant friends. Loyal and easy to love, he would do anything for anyone, spending hours lifting others' spirits with his goofy jokes or tackling projects with friends in need," Hansen's obituary states.
Police said family members of Robles who were in his hospital room reported he has a history of heroin and marijuana use, according to the affidavit. Police said he has a history of DUI within the last 10 years and is an alcohol-restricted driver.
Because Robles was free on bail for a previous felony charge of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, police requested that he be arrested and held on a no-bail warrant. Police say he left the hospital, and officers had not yet been able to locate him as of Friday.
Court records show Robles has faced numerous felony and misdemeanor charges in Utah since 2003, most of which have been drug-related.
