Number of measles cases increases nationwide

Tom Callan reportingNationwide, there are more reported cases of measles so far this year than there were in all of last year.

No cases of measles have been reported in Utah, but 64 have been reported across the country.

"Most of these outbreaks appear to be related to someone who went overseas," said Rochelle Boulton, of the Utah State Health Department.

She says out of those 64 cases, only one person had been vaccinated.

"The measles vaccine has been tested time and time again. It has been found to be very, very safe," she said.

But not all parents want their children to be immunized. Last year in Utah, 2.8 percent of kindergarteners received no vaccinations.
