Microbursts Bring Winds, Heavy Rain To Spanish Fork

SPANISH FORK, Utah — A violent summer storm swept through Utah, catching many people off guard. One of those storms screamed through Spanish Fork, bringing winds that knocked down trees and pummeled the area with heavy rain. It was around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when the microburst moved through part of the town. Residents said it was so dark you couldn't even see the mountain. The rain was welcome, but not so much the winds. Callie Beardall sent this video to KSL-TV just as the storm rolled through Spanish Fork. "It was a big microburst," said Brian Chandler. "It came through and knocked down a couple trees. It came through the neighborhood. We got a bunch of hail." Karen John sent in this photo of a trampoline on a roof.From Shelley and Tim Keeton, a tree split down the middle."You could hardly see the road it was so heavy," said Jennifer Atkinson who watched the microburst roll through her neighborhood. The microburst was one of several that moved through the state. "Two streets over, a huge tree went down. In fact, it took us three giant truckloads just to get it out, then a few small ones as well," said Chandler. All that's left of that tree now is a hole in the front yard. "There was a lot of wind, and it just came through really fast and it was gone really fast," said Atkinson. "Very unusual."
