Lori Prichard reportingA massive storm is approaching the Salt Lake Valley. It's supposed to pack heavy snow and winds.

This latest storm system could wreak havoc on the valley, meaning many of us could be left in the dark, again. But we do have some tips on how you can prepare for what could be a rough couple of weeks.

Last month Teri Taylor lost power. She said, "We need power." That was the cry for help last month when heavy snow blacked out one Kearns neighborhood for several days.

This time around we may see more of the same.

Rocky Mountain Power recommends you have:

Blankets & Warm Clothes
Food & Water
Flashlights
Batteries
Non-Electric Can Opener
Battery operated radio and clock

This storm is expected to create dangerous avalanche conditions in the northern Wasatch and Western Uinta mountains. So from now through tomorrow night an avalanche watch is in effect for those areas. Anyone thinking about heading into the backcountry needs to be extremely careful.
