SALT LAKE CITY -- Christ United Methodist Church in the Millcreek area is showing off a new solar panel rooftop thanks to a grant from Rocky Mountain Power.

The 99 new solar panels will help reduce energy costs.

The church received a Blue Sky grant from Rocky Mountain Power worth $60,000. It's the first church in the county to receive funding through the program. Church members also donated $50,000 toward the roof.

The new solar roof will avoid 55,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
