I-15, Bangerter Highway projects to cause weekend traffic delays

FARMINGTON — State transportation officials are urging drivers in Davis and Salt Lake counties to plan ahead this weekend as a result of a pair of projects on I-15 and Bangerter Highway.

I-15 in Davis County

Northbound I-15 will be reduced to one lane from south of Parrish Lane in Centerville to the 200 West exit in Farmington on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. John Gleason, a spokesman for the Utah Department of Transportation, said crews are scheduled to add temporary pavement to widen the road for a traffic shift.

This will help crews set up a key piece of infrastructure for a new highway coming to the county.

"We're going to use the median to build the supports for the new bridge that's eventually going to connect I-15 with the new West Davis Highway," Gleason said.

The closures will happen as early as 8 p.m. Friday, according to Gleason. He added that at least one northbound lane will be closed during the day Sunday and that closure could linger into Monday morning if there are any project delays. That's why the department officially says all lanes should be reopened by noon Monday.

Bangerter Highway at S.R. 201

The other project impacts Salt Lake County, and may affect drivers commuting to or from the Salt Lake City International Airport, Gleason said.

Crews plan to close both directions of Bangerter Highway at state Route 201 beginning at 8 p.m. Friday. That closure will remain in place throughout the weekend, with interchange ramps reopening Monday morning.

Gleason said crews will be conducting pavement maintenance at the interchange and recommends drivers use I-215 as an alternate route.
