WEST VALLEY CITY — An early morning fire drove a family out of their home and claimed the life of their dog Saturday.
Investigators said a neighbor noticed the fire and knocked on the door to notify the residents.
The flames had already overtaken about half the house, near 4800 West and 3900 South, by the time firefighters arrived, said West Valley City Fire Battalion Chief Mark Ownsbey.
The house suffered $125,000 in damage, investigators said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Ownsbey said the residents of the house will be staying with other family members.
