FBI offering reward for tips about 2 people involved in the arson of Salt Lake police car

SALT LAKE CITY — The FBI in Salt Lake City is offering up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of two people who helped burn a Salt Lake police car during a protest.

The police vehicle was flipped over and torched during a downtown protest on May 30 around 3:30 p.m. Members of the crowd surrounded the vehicle, broke the windows, overturned it and set it on fire.

A total of nine people have been charged in state court as of Wednesday in connection with the police car incident.

The FBI in Salt Lake City issued a notice Wednesday about the two unknown suspects. One person is described as a Black male with short black hair who wore a Nike-brand hooded sweatshirt and pants. According to investigators, the man’s face was covered with a black gas mask during the incident.

The other person is described as a man with long, dark hair and a beard who wore a red plaid shirt over a gray T-shirt and tan pants. His face was partially obscured by a white face mask, according to investigators.

The FBI is offering a reward up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of both men — up to $12,500 each.
