Becky Bruce and KSL News reportingPolice are investigating a car versus pedestrian crash right in the middle of the lunchtime rush. It happened at 250 E. 200 South in downtown Salt Lake City.
Lt. Cal Kunz, with the Salt Lake City Police Department, says the driver of a white Cadillac was headed westbound on 200 South at the same time two women were crossing at 250 East.
Garrett Smuin saw the accident. "We said, ‘They're going to hit him.' I mean, we saw it coming. He just wasn't slowing down at all, and he noticed just a minute too late," Smuin says.
The two Qwest employees were injured and taken to the hospital. A 35-year-old woman suffered some injures and was transported to the hospital in fair condition. A 38-year-old female suffered head trauma and is in very critical condition.
Accident investigation crews are still piecing together the sequence of events. There's no word whether the driver of the Cadillac, who stopped and is cooperating with authorities, will face charges.
