PROVO — The Turning Point chapter at Brigham Young University reported a significant increase in membership during fall semester, and a spokesperson for the chapter said it is now one of the largest in the nation. Nathan Neuhaus, the outreach coordinator for the chapter, said in the weeks following the shooting that killed Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, thousands of students had joined. His claim about growing membership is supported by numbers from the chapter's Instagram account: Since Kirk's death, the chapter has garnered several thousand likes on multiple posts on the platform, mostly eclipsing engagement on posts made before the shooting. "Our chapter is exploding and we have big plans ahead," Neuhaus said. Among those plans, Neuhaus said, is a student speaking event at the Utah Capitol building "to honor the life and legacy of the fallen Charlie Kirk," set for Oct. 14. "We have extended invitations to multiple lawmakers such as Senators Mike Lee and John Curtis, Representatives Mike Kennedy and Blake Moore, and even local Mayors Michelle Kaufusi and David Young," Neuhaus said. He anticipated that somewhere between "a couple hundred to over a thousand students" would be attending the event at the Capitol.
