CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Appeal is just several months younger than the state itself and like Nevada last year, the newspaper recently reached its own sesquicentennial milestone.
On Saturday the newspaper celebrated 150 years to the day that the first Nevada Appeal edition was published.
The Nevada Appeal (http://bit.ly/1GjLjOK) reports Gov. Brian Sandoval, local leaders and readers gathered at its Carson City headquarters for cake, newsroom tours and performances.
The newspaper says Sandoval presented a license plate with the phrase "NA 150" to publisher Mark Raymond. Raymond was also the first to make one of 150 commemorative silver coins on a historic coin press at the nearby U.S. Mint.
Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell tells the newspaper the Appeal embodies the city's motto: 'Proud of our past and confident in our future.'
