LAYTON -- Police arrested a young mother after they say she and her boyfriend kidnapped her own son.

Police say the 1-year-old's court-appointed guardian called them Wednesday, saying the boy had been kidnapped by 18-year-old Kayla Roybal and her boyfriend David Hogan.

The pair apparently walked into the guardian's home, packed bags for the child and left.

Officers were able to reach Roybal through text messaging and negotiated the boy's safe return three hours after the abduction.

Roybal was booked into the Davis County Jail for child kidnapping, reckless endangerment and other charges. Hogan also faces kidnapping charges.

Hogan, who is not the child's father, pled guilty to felony child abuse in June and is currently awaiting sentencing.

Police say Roybal and Hogan planned to start a new life with the boy out of state.
