SALT LAKE CITY -- A Salt Lake man will spend at least 18 years in prison for beating a friend to death in Olympus Cove two years ago.
Tuesday, the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole ruled Christopher Allen Hewitt will have his first appearance in front of them in 2025.
Hewitt pleaded guilty last year to first-degree felony murder for beating Benjamin Perkins-Link to death with a metal pole during a hike in 2007.
He was sentenced to five years to life in prison.
