SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Labor Commission announced Wednesday it will adopt the new federal minimum wage law.
Effective July 24, Utah's minimum wage will increase to $7.25 an hour.
According to Robyn Barkdull of the Utah Labor Commission, this is the third scheduled 70 cent increase since 2007, when the minimum wage increased from $5.15 an hour to $5.85. In 2008, that rate increased again to $6.55 an hour.
Commissioner Sherrie Hayashi says the state must review the Utah minimum wage law whenever a change occurs in the federal minimum wage law.
The new law won't affect tipped employees. Their hourly wage will remain at $2.13. The training wage of $4.25 an hour for minor employees during their first 90 days of employment will also remain the same.
