Shelley Osterloh ReportingIn the First Congressional District, Rob Bishop is on his way back to Washington, DC for a third term. Opponent Steven Olsen didn't find traction with enough Utahns with his message that most Utahns are democrats, but just don't know it.
In the Second Congressional District, incumbent Jim Matheson gets the easy pass for a fourth term over state representative LaVar Christensen.
In the Third District it will be a sixth term for Chris Cannon. He had a close primary, but not a close win in the general election over consumer lawyer, Christian Burridge.
Nationally, it looks like the house will no longer be controlled by republicans. Rob Bishop says it's not a great day for America, but they'll do the best they can.
Rob Bishop: "I'm a republican for a reason and I think our message is better for the nation and especially for Utah, than what Nancy Pelosi will put down as the agenda. So it's not a great day for America, to be honest with you."
Democrat Jim Matheson says the democrats taking control of the house will be good for the nation.
Jim Matheson: "I think it's a great opportunity because people who won across the country are a group called the Blue Dogs, of which I am a member. And they're people like me; they're moderat-conservative democrats. They're the ones who gained a party majority and they're gonna help set the agenda."
He says in the next two years, he will focus on balancing the budget, something that will be good for everyone.
