PROVO -- Provo-based Raser Technologies says it has created a hybrid SUV, a converted Hummer H-3, that can get about 140 miles per gallon.
It can drive in all-electric mode up to 40 miles per day.
It was developed with Raser's technology, along with an advanced powertrain from a German company.
The company believes the higher cost of an SUV will make sense for now only for companies with fleet vehicles. The company says a smaller car could get 400 miles per gallon.
Raser's Web site says a demonstration vehicle is now in road testing. The company will unveil its SUV later this month at the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) World Congress in Detroit, Michigan.
