PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Utah County is laying off about two dozen employees because of revenue shortfalls.

The county commission approved a 2009 budget on Tuesday that is millions of dollars smaller than the current budget.

The sheriff's office, which makes up half of the county's employees, isn't facing any job cuts. But other departments, like the county recorder's office, are. Of the 43 positions in that office, eight full-time and six temporary positions are being eliminated.

Another two dozen county employees took an early buyout. The county's goal is 50 buyouts. The county employs about 1,000 people.
