INDIANOLA, Sanpete County — A Mt. Pleasant man is facing criminal charges tied to a fatal crash in Sanpete County in September.

Steven Linford, 39, was charged Thursday in 6th District Court with automobile homicide, a third-degree felony; using a handheld device while driving, a class B misdemeanor; and failing to stay in his lane, an infraction.

On Sept. 30, the Utah Highway Patrol responded to a crash involving a a 10-wheeler dump truck and a passenger vehicle on U.S. 89 near Indianola.

The dump truck "had lost control and spun into the opposing lane of travel where it was struck by the passenger car, which was occupied by two adults, one male and one female. Both occupants of the passenger car were transported to an area hospital," according to the UHP.

The woman, who has not been identified, died at the hospital from her injuries.
