SALT LAKE CITY — Americana musician Todd Snider was arrested during a tour stop in the Salt Lake area and accused of causing a disturbance at a hospital — after he said he was assaulted outside his hotel.
Snider, 59, was arrested Sunday and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of disorderly conduct at Holy Cross Hospital, as well as trespassing and making a threat of violence.
Snider was discharged from the hospital, but he apparently didn't believe that he should have been discharged and "started yelling/cursing at the staff," according to a police booking affidavit.
This caused "alarm among hospital employees and residents," the affidavit states.
A medical professional from the hospital asked Snider to leave the property and to not come back. Police said he did leave the property but then returned.
Snider then "made verbal threats to the victim by getting into the face of the victim and stating they were going to 'kick your (expletive),'" the affidavit says.
Snider was scheduled to perform Saturday night at a venue in South Salt Lake, but the show was canceled due to him being attacked, according to his production company.
The remainder of Snider's tour has been canceled, according to Aimless Inc.
"Ahead of Todd Snider's show in Salt Lake City, Todd sustained severe injuries as the victim of a violent assault outside of his hotel," a statement from Aimless Inc. posted on Snider's Facebook page reads.
The South Salt Lake Police Department said in a statement Monday that its officers were called out to investigate "a report of an alleged assault of a 59-year-old male" Saturday about 3:40 p.m. at the Commonwealth Room.
However, limited information about the incident was obtained, the department said. "At this time, the exact location and details surrounding this incident are unclear," police said in the release.
