MIDVALE — One person is dead after what police are calling a "criminal act" and a car crash in Midvale Thursday evening.

The incident occurred near La Salle Drive and Jackson Street, according to Unified police detective Quin Wilkins.

"I can confirm that there was a fatality, and there was a car accident," Wilkins told KSL Friday. "However, the car accident was not what caused the fatality."

Wilkins said the person's death was related to the "criminal act," but he did not say how the person died. The investigation was ongoing Friday evening.

Police have not released the deceased person's name but say they have notified the person's next of kin.
