SALT LAKE CITY — A mission leader for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico City has been released from the hospital after he was shot during an attempted robbery early Saturday.
President R. Tyler Wallis, of the Mexico City West Mission, was shot once by an intruder in his home, at about 2 a.m. on Aug. 16, according to a statement from church spokesman Sam Penrod. Wallis was stabilized at an intermediate care unit in Mexico City and was responding well to treatment, the statement said on Saturday.
The church announced on Wednesday that Wallis was released from the hospital and is continuing to recover at his home.
His wife, Sister Elizabeth Thorstenson Wallis, was not injured during the incident, Penrod said.
"President and Sister Wallis express sincere gratitude for the prayers offered in their behalf and look forward to continuing their service as mission leaders in the Mexico City West Mission," the church statement says.
Further details about the shooting were not available Wednesday. Authorities in Mexico City are investigating the incident, according to the statement.
