CEDAR CITY — A driver was hospitalized after a T-bone collision in Cedar City on Monday morning.

The crash occurred before 9 a.m., when a car traveling east toward Cedar City on state Route 56 turned left onto Airport Road and collided with a white Nissan SUV, which was traveling west, according to Cedar City Police Sgt. Justin Ludlow.

The SUV hit a ditch near the road and was "launched," Ludlow said. The driver, a man who has not been identified, was pinned and had to be extricated from the vehicle, he said.

He was taken to the hospital by medical helicopter, according to Ludlow, who said he was unsure of the extent of the man's injuries.

The driver of the other car was not taken to the hospital.

The highway was briefly closed, but reopened shortly after. More information was not immediately available.
