SALT LAKE CITY — A man serving a life without parole prison sentence for killing a Draper police officer is facing a new criminal charge accusing him of stabbing another inmate.
Timothy Troy Walker, 46, was charged Tuesday in 3rd District Court with aggravated assault by a prisoner, a second-degree felony.
Michael Mark Jenkins, 46, who is listed as a co-defendant, was charged Tuesday with assault by a prisoner, a third-degree felony.
On Jan. 14, Walker and Jenkins got into a fight with another inmate at the Utah State Prison, 1480 N. 8000 West. Jenkins punched the victim, and "Walker then ran toward the area, pulled out a weapon and started hitting (the victim) with it," according to charging documents.
The weapon was later determined to be "a metal object sharpened to a point," the charges state. The victim "sustained several stab wounds to his torso."
Walker is already serving a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2013 fatal shooting of Draper Police Sgt. Derek Johnson.
In 2019, he was sentenced to at least five more years and up to life in prison after being convicted of another stabbing while in prison.
