RIVERTON — An 18-year-old man is dead after police say he was shot by his father Tuesday in what appears to be an accidental shooting.

Police were dispatched to a house at 13885 S. Kesler Peake Drive in Riverton about 3 p.m. Paramedics who responded attempted lifesaving measures on the 18-year-old, but police say he died shortly after being transported to a hospital.

Riverton city spokesman Josh Lee said the incident is "being described to us as an accidental shooting." Still, the man's 46-year-old father was taken in for questioning and is cooperating with the investigation, Lee said.

Detectives were also at the home conducting a thorough investigation of the scene Tuesday evening.

Details on what happened to cause the shooting were not immediately available. The name of the man who died has not been released.
