Teen cyclist struck by car; family seeks driver to come forward

SOUTH JORDAN — A 14-year-old girl was hit by a car while crossing a small crosswalk in South Jordan on Monday afternoon.

Dazed, injured, but remarkably composed, Cassie Clark recalled the moments following the accident with surprising clarity.

"It was a really nice day, that's why I wanted to go out on my bike," Cassie explained.

She was heading out for a snack around 4 p.m. when the incident occurred near 11400 South and Bangerter Highway. While riding her e-bike through the crosswalk, she was struck by a black SUV. The collision left her momentarily unconscious.

"I blacked out for a second," she said.

Cassie described the driver, who appeared just as shocked as she was.

"She helped me get up and she asked if she could do anything," Cassie said.

The driver, however, left the scene shortly after. The teenager's mother, Kami Clark, received the call every parent dreads.

"My husband called and said (Cassie had) been hit by a car," she said.

The family took Cassie to the emergency room, where doctors treated her for multiple bruises, possible concussion symptoms, and injuries to her leg and elbow. Despite her physical pain, the emotional toll of the accident weighs heavily on both Cassie and her family.

"I would like to find the person that hit her," she said, emphasizing their need for accountability.

The Clarks hope the driver will come forward to cover Cassie's medical expenses and the repairs for her e-bike. The incident has sparked community concern, especially after a Facebook user admitted to being involved but later deleted the post when contacted by Kami Clark.

"I'm just upset that she left her without knowing her condition," Kami Clark expressed. "It's one thing to not follow the law and call 911 — that's what she should have done. It's another to leave a 14-year-old who's just had a major head trauma, couldn't stand up, was wobbly, and was disoriented, and leave her alone."

South Jordan police are investigating, and the family is hopeful that justice — and compassion — will prevail.
