WEST VALLEY CITY — A Utah man is facing criminal charges after police say he arranged to pay a father $250 to have sex with his 10-year-old daughter.

The father turned out to be an undercover agent with the State Bureau of Investigations.

Jacob Paul Hare, 43, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with attempted rape of a child, attempted sodomy of a child and human trafficking of a child, all first-degree felonies.

Hare, who police say had the username "CanIRentYourKidsForSex," is accused of contacting a state agent posing online as a father on Sept. 26. Hare eventually agreed to pay the father $250 to sexually abuse his daughter, according to charging documents.

"'CanIRentYourKidsForSex' was very worried that he may be arrested by law enforcement and arranged a very specific form of meeting to ensure he wouldn't be arrested and stated he would wear a mask and hoodie to ensure that his picture wouldn't be taken and he wouldn't be identifiable," according to the charges.

At first, investigators say Hare did not show up at the arranged meeting place, claiming he was caught in traffic. He also "told the undercover officer he was currently chatting with another minor online and trying to arrange a sexual encounter with that minor as well," the charges allege.

Hare then told the officer he was trying to "coax" his wife to go to sleep so he could sneak out of the house and sexually abuse the girl, the charges say. This time when he arrived at the designated meeting location, a hotel in West Valley City, he was taken into custody.

After he was arrested, Hare allegedly told investigators he has an "uncontrollable sexual addiction" and "admitted that he has previously met with and had sex with at least one other minor. He admitted that he has met up and had sex with others who may have been minors in the past but that he didn't ask their age," according to the court documents.
