PRICE — A 16-year-old girl and a 24-year-old man were killed in a fiery crash in Price over the weekend.
The two people killed in Saturday's crash have been identified by their friends on social media and their own obituaries as Jaxxlyn Michelle Cowley and Michael MaCade Davis, who died a day before his 25th birthday.
About 5:30 a.m. Saturday, emergency crews responded to a vehicle that crashed and caught fire near the Carbon County-Price Regional Airport.
Two of the four occupants of the vehicle were killed, and two others were taken to a local hospital, according to the Carbon County Sheriff's Office. A law enforcement officer who attempted to rescue the occupants of the vehicle was also treated at a local hospital for undisclosed injuries, the sheriff's office said.
No other information about the crash has been released.
"This accident is currently under investigation through a collaborative effort between Utah Highway Patrol and Carbon County Sheriff's Office," the sheriff's office announced.
According to her obituary and a GoFundMe* campaign set up for the teen, Jaxxlyn was born Jaxxlyn Hazel Moon Huggins and was adopted by the Cowley family in 2019. A memorial service will be held for her on Sunday.
"She was loved dearly and full-heartedly," the fundraising site states, adding "all of the proceeds will go to the families along with the memorial service,"
"She was such a sweet-hearted girl. I will miss chatting with her at the barrel races," a woman commented on Facebook. "This accident was horrible. My heart breaks for everyone involved," another woman posted. "Loved riding club with her. She was so funny and a fun girl. Hugs and prayers to all her family and friends," another post stated.
Meanwhile, funeral services for Davis will be held Friday in Price.
"MaCade was such a special person and the light of any room he was in. He was always there to offer a listening ear or shoulder to cry on, as well as being more than willing to help, not only his friends, but anyone who needed a helping hand in any way. He always gave the best hugs that were healing to the core, just like his dad!" his obituary states.
A fundraiser pool tournament will be held for Davis at the Tipsy Tavern in Price on Saturday.
