LAYTON — Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Davis County gathered Sunday to witness Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles dedicate the church's new Layton Utah Temple.

Elder Bednar invited church members to build a "covenant connection" with Heavenly Father through what they learn in the temple.

The Layton temple is the church's 22nd of what are currently 30 operating or planned temples in Utah. The three-story temple is on a 11.8-acre site on a hillside between two main traffic arteries north of Salt Lake City — Interstate 15 and U.S. 89.

The temple was one of two temples dedicated Sunday. Elder D. Todd Christofferson, a fellow apostle, dedicated the Salta Argentina Temple three hours before the dedication of the Layton Utah Temple, according to Church News.

Elder Bednar was accompanied by his wife, Susan. Elder Brian K. Taylor, general authority seventy and second Counselor in the Utah Area presidency, his wife Jill, Elder Kevin R. Duncan, general authority seventy and executive director of the church's Temple Department, and his wife Nancy were also in attendance.
