FAIRVIEW, Sanpete County — Police have identified the man killed Wednesday when his car crashed into the back of a school bus.

Utah Highway Patrol said a school bus was stopped, with its lights flashing to let kids off, when a vehicle slammed into the back of the bus. The collision occurred on U.S. 89 about a mile north of Fairview just before 3 p.m.

The driver was transported via helicopter to a hospital in critical condition but later died, UHP Sgt. Cameron Roden said. The driver was identified Thursday as Klinton Draper, 42, of Fairview.

All of the children on the bus were checked by medical crews and none was transported, Roden said. A different bus picked them up to take them away from the scene.

The crash temporarily shut down the road in that area.

Correction: Troopers originally reported the driver's name first name as Kinton. It is Klinton.
