TOOELE — A Tooele man was arrested over the weekend and accused of killing a woman's cat.

Bryan William Allen, 40, was booked into the Tooele County Jail for investigation of aggravated cruelty to animals.

On Saturday, police were called to the area of 400 North and 100 East, where a woman reported Allen had been at her residence and had killed her cat, and there was a video recording of the incident, a police booking affidavit states.

In the security camera video, police say Allen is seen picking up a cat and taking it to the backyard.

"Seconds later, Mr. Allen retrieves a bucket, puts the cat into the bucket, takes a shovel, puts it into the bucket, hits the cat repeatedly, and then throws the cat into a garbage can," the affidavit alleges.

Police then went to Allen's residence to question him. He admitted to killing the cat by squeezing its head and then hitting it with a shovel, according to the affidavit.

Officers also noted Allen "has a violent criminal history that began in 2003" and includes 11 convictions. Friends and family members told investigators that after being clean for several years, Allen recently relapsed and has been battling substance abuse issues, according to police.
