MURRAY — A man has been arrested in connection to the shooting outside of Fashion Place Mall on Saturday that left one person injured.

Around 11 a.m., police were dispatched to Fashion Place Mall on reports of a shooting. Callers reported that multiple people were involved in the shooting but were only shooting at each other, according to a probable cause statement. Police arrived on the scene and detained six individuals who matched the descriptions of people involved by callers.

One of the six individuals had been shot in the ankle and was taken to the hospital.

Police discovered that the group of six had followed a man out to the parking lot, where a confrontation occurred and the man then shot at the group. One of the men from the group then fired back and "emptied his clip," according to the affidavit.

The man, identified as 18-year-old Imanuill Ahmed, told investigators he hid his gun underneath a trash compactor. Multiple cars were struck by gunfire but no other injuries were reported.

Ahmed was arrested on suspicion of felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, riot and criminal mischief.

Reports of an "active shooter" initially spread across the internet Saturday and police quickly confirmed the situation was contained; though, X was abuzz with posts about what one woman called an "awful" experience.

People at the mall at the time of the incident were kept on lockdown for a short time. One Apple store employee told people gathered in the back room that no new customers were being let into the store until the situation could be resolved and anyone who wanted to be escorted to their cars could do so, according to posts on Instagram.

The Container Store and the adjacent parking area was closed while police continued their investigation, but mall business continued as normal. A window at the Container Store and multiple cars in the parking lot appeared to have been damaged by the gunfire.

"We feel very lucky that this is all we are dealing with right now," Burnett said. "It's Saturday afternoon at the mall. It's a busy place."

Coincidentally, a shooting occurred at the same mall on Jan. 13, 2019, exactly five years ago. At that time, two people were injured after being shot near a mall entrance and police ended up arresting five men in the days following for their alleged involvement in the shooting, which was deemed to have been gang-related. The mall was also put on lockdown during that investigation.
