Church of Jesus Christ announces funeral plans for President M. Russell Ballard

SALT LAKE CITY — The funeral for President M. Russell Ballard will be held on Friday in the Tabernacle on Temple Square at 11 a.m.

President Ballard, acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died Sunday night surrounded by loved ones at age 95.

The funeral on Friday will be open to the public, for those over 8 years old, and will also be streamed live by the church on its website, BYUtv, and the church's Inspiration and Events YouTube channel.

Following the funeral, there will be a private burial service at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. There will be no public viewing.

The church invited members to post expressions of sympathy on President Ballard's official Facebook and Instagram accounts. His family has requested donations to This Is The Place Heritage Park in lieu of flowers.

Those who wish to attend President Ballard's funeral in person should be in their seats by 10:30 a.m.; doors to the Tabernacle will open at 9:30 a.m.

Other church buildings near Temple Square will be closed between 10:30 a.m and 1 p.m. on Friday to accommodate the funeral.
