COPPERTON — Two men were injured in an electric shock accident at the Bingham Copper Mine Wednesday.

Two employees were performing electrical work at the mine Wednesday when they made contact with electricity while working on an electric shovel, a statement from Rio Tinto Kennecott said.

A 25-year-old was taken to the hospital by medical helicopter in critical condition, Unified police said. A 49-year-old suffered electrical burns and was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

"The health and safety of our people is our top priority. The incident area has been isolated and we are working with regulatory agencies," the mining operation said. "We've started an investigation to understand the cause of the incident and put into place safety measures to prevent it from happening again."
