COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A 57-year-old man was killed Thursday night in the same area of Cottonwood Heights where a 12-year-old got hit by a suspected drunk driver earlier this week.

The man was crossing Fort Union Boulevard where it intersects with Towncrest Drive just after 7 p.m. Cottonwood Heights Police Sgt. Gary Young said it is not a good crossing area as there isn't an official crosswalk and it is not well-lit.

An eastbound car on Fort Union Boulevard didn't see the man crossing and struck and killed him. The victim's identity has not yet been released.

The man was wearing dark clothing as he was crossing and the driver of a westbound car that was in the area saw a dark shape go into the path of the vehicle, according to police.

The driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Officers were working to reconstruct the scene to determine additional details.

Just a few hundred yards away from the accident at 2200 East on Fort Union Boulevard is a marked crosswalk that has orange flags for pedestrians to hold as they cross. A 12-year-old boy was hit and critically injured Monday at 5 p.m. when he was crossing there and carrying an orange flag.

Two eastbound cars were approaching the crosswalk at the same time. One driver saw him but the other did not and struck him.

The driver, Sheree Lyn Hudson-Isom, 67, "acknowledged taking prescription opiates prior to the incident," according to a police booking affidavit. She was arrested for investigation of DUI.
