WENDOVER — A semitruck rollover on I-80 Friday evening left one person dead and another person in serious condition.

The rollover crash happened 15 miles east of Wendover, the Utah Highway Patrol said. The driver was pinned in the semitruck. Of the two occupants, one died and another was seriously injured.

The crash shut down westbound traffic in the area for several hours. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Earlier Friday afternoon in a separate incident, a semitruck driver hit two vehicles on I-80 in Summit County and then led a trooper on a chase into oncoming traffic, troopers said.

Utah Highway Patrol said the semitruck was involved in a hit-and-run crash on westbound I-80 near Kimball Junction. A UHP trooper was parked at the median when the truck pulled into the median, backed up into traffic then crossed the median into oncoming traffic.

The trooper chased the semitruck, and the semitruck hit the trooper's vehicle as the trooper tried to get the other driver to stop, UHP said.

The semitruck and trooper's vehicle were blocking an eastbound lane after the crash.

In total, three vehicles were hit but no injuries have been reported, troopers said. The UHP said impairment is suspected as a factor in the crash in Summit County.
