LAYTON — A man was arrested Thursday in Layton after police found more than 10,000 fentanyl pills in his car.
Carlos Asuncion Magana, 26, was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of the use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
Layton police responded to a report Thursday morning of Magana, allegedly thought to have been intoxicated, stumbling around his 2004 Nissan Sentra in the Layton Target parking lot at 815 W. 2000 North.
Officers found the door to the Sentra open and saw drug paraphernalia inside, per a police booking affidavit. Officers also said they found circular blue M30 pills scattered in the parking lot.
"I knew that these pills are more often found to be counterfeit and contain fentanyl pills," police explained in the affidavit. "(Magana) showed obvious signs of drug use and was detained."
The Sentra was searched and officers found more than a pound of cocaine and more than 10,000 fentanyl pills, per the affidavit.
"I know from training and experience, the quantities of pills and cocaine are a distributable amount. Also in the vehicle was drug paraphernalia consistent with drug distribution," police said in the affidavit.
