WEST VALLEY CITY — One man is dead following a shooting in West Valley City on Wednesday that police do not believe was a random incident.

Just after 11 p.m., officers received several 911 calls of shots being fired in the area of 4200 S. Bluebird Circle, just west of Bangerter Highway. They arrived to find a Marcus Garcia, 36, deceased "in the middle of the road" with an apparent gunshot wound, according to West Valley police.

Detectives believe at least two people fled the area following the shooting and were last seen headed toward 4000 West.

"It is believed the suspect vehicle struck an uninvolved motorist on 4000 West, disabling that vehicle," said West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.

The uninvolved motorist was not injured. The gunmen were able to keep driving after the collision, she said. Detectives were looking Thursday for a silver or light blue sedan that has front end damage.

Investigators spent the night canvassing the neighborhood, looking for doorbell camera video that may have recorded the vehicle the shooters were in, added West Valley Police Lt. Bill Merritt.

Merritt says police believe the attackers and Garcia were previously acquainted with each other and the shooting may have been connected to a previous conflict.

The search for the gunmen continued Thursday. Anyone with information on the case can call police at 801-840-4000.
