SALT LAKE CITY — The college football season is around the corner, and with that comes the release of the various preseason watchlists for the numerous awards given to players and coaches in the sports.
The preseason watchlists are released over a two-week period (OK, technically just over two weeks), beginning with the Maxwell Award on July 31 and going through Aug. 14. A full schedule is found below:
- July 31: Maxwell Award (college player of the year)
- Aug. 1: Outland Trophy (interior lineman); Bronko Nagurski Trophy (defensive player)
- Aug. 2: Lou Groza Award (placekicker); Ray Guy Award (punter)
- Aug. 3: Paul Hornung Award (most versatile); Wuerffel Trophy (community service)
- Aug. 4: Mackey Award (tight end); Rimington Trophy (nation's premier center)
- Aug. 7: Biletnikoff Award (receiver)
- Aug. 8: Davey O'Brien Award (quarterback)
- Aug. 9: Doak Walker Award (running back)
- Aug. 10: Butkus Award (linebacker); Jim Thorpe Award (defensive back)
- Aug. 11: Walter Camp Award (most outstanding player)
- Aug. 14: Bednarik Award (defensive player of the year)
