HELPER, Carbon County — A person died after the car they were driving crashed into a semitruck on a major Utah highway Tuesday morning.
Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash on U.S. 6 near Helper shortly before 6:40 a.m. Utah Highway Patrol troopers said a passenger car traveling east on the highway crossed over into the westbound lane for an unknown reason and collided with a semitruck hauling two trailers that was traveling west in the lane.
The driver of the passenger car, whose name and age were not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The semitruck driver was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation.
U.S. 6 was closed near Helper for several hours as a result of the investigation; however, the Utah Department of Transportation reports that the highway has since reopened.
