PROVO — Green Canyon's championship run through the spring season stayed alive Friday afternoon.
A week after the Wolves' boys soccer won the first title in program history, Hailey Shakespear added an individual title in the girls 3,200-meter run Friday to help Green Canyon keep pace at the 4A state track and field championships at BYU's Clarence Robinson Track.
"Our school has a really good atmosphere," said Shakespear, a sophomore who paced herself slower than expected in the first mile before finishing in 11 minutes, 35.41 seconds. "Everyone cheers for everyone; it's a great environment. The girls that I raced with, too, are all girls that I was raised with. It's amazing, and great to be around them.
Abigail Blau added another title in the shot put for Green Canyon with a winning throw of 41 feet, 11.50 inches to help the Wolves to second place with 41 points behind Pine View's 46.5.
Cedar (32), Snow Canyon (18.5) and Ridgeline (16.5) round out the top five.
Snow Canyon won both the 4x200 and 4x800-meter relays to cruise to a 13-point lead over Pine View with 47 points after the first day, Cedar (31), Desert Hills (24) and Sky View (11) round out the top five.
