SALT LAKE CITY — President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced on social media he sometimes uses a walker or wheelchair to help him with his balance.
"You may have heard a rumor that someone saw me somewhere using a walker or a wheelchair. Well, it's not a rumor," he said Tuesday.
President Nelson said he has a "small" challenge with his balance, and that he isn't surprised little issues are arising as he nears 100 years old.
"Gratefully, my heart is good, my spirit is strong as are my legs, and my brain still works. I love you my dear brothers and sisters, and am grateful every day to serve the Lord and you," he said. "Little challenges with balance should be the least of our worries. Onward and upward!"
Also on Tuesday, the First Presidency met with Csaba Korosi, the United Nations General Assembly president, for the first time at church headquarters in Salt Lake City. Korosi is a Hungarian diplomat who was appointed as president of the assembly in June 2022.
The church works with various relief agencies of the U.N. to partner with and contribute to the U.N.'s humanitarian efforts around the world. The church also has government relations offices in New York City and Geneva, Switzerland.
During his visit, Korosi went on a tour of Temple Square with Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The two visited the FamilySearch Library, where Korosi learned more about his ancestors, church officials said in a news release.
This is not the first time church leadership has met with leaders of the General Assembly.
During a conference for nongovernmental organizations in 2019, then-General Assembly President María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés of Ecuador became the first sitting president to visit Utah. She took a tour of the church's Welfare Square.
Later that year in November, Elder M. Russell Ballard met with the office of the president of the General Assembly during a visit to New York City where they discussed improving education and eradicating hunger and poverty.
