GREEN RIVER, Emery County — Two first responders died in a truck fire near Green River on Sunday night in an off-duty accident.
Green River Fire Chief Ben Lehnhoff said the two were on a trail near "G Hill" in an older Chevy pickup truck. The truck lost traction on a hill, rolled over and caught fire.
Green River Fire Department responded to the accident but both men were confirmed dead on the scene, Lehnhoff said.
The men were identified as Shawn O'Keefe, a firefighter since 2020, and Stephen Mayall, a driver for the city's emergency medical services department.

A GoFundMe account describes Mayall as a father of three who loved his children and loved shooting guns, fishing and riding dirt bikes.

Another GoFundMe account describes O'Keefe as a father of two. "Shawn was the best person you'd ever meet. He had a heart of gold, he helped any and everyone. He started his own small business in his hometown after retiring from the military," it states.
