SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah mother has been identified as the woman who was shot and killed outside a Salt Lake nightclub over the weekend.
On Monday, Salt Lake police confirmed that Nichole Olsen, 29, was the victim in a deadly confrontation that happened about 2 a.m. Sunday near 300 S. West Temple.
Prior to the shooting several people were asked by employees to leave a nearby nightclub.
"While outside, the suspect got into an argument with the victim's boyfriend. The argument escalated and resulted in the suspect pulling out a gun and shooting the victim," according to a statement from Salt Lake police.
Whether Olsen was the intended target of the shooting was not known Monday.
Olsen was loaded into a car and was driven to University of Utah Hospital. While en route, someone in the vehicle called 911 but kept driving to the hospital despite being told to stop and wait for police. Olsen died from her injuries at the hospital. No one had been arrested as of Monday afternoon.
In a GoFundMe account* set up to raise money for Olsen's funeral, family members identify her as Nicole Olsen and posted a picture of her with her son, Santino.
"Our hearts are truly saddened by this sudden and unexpected loss of Nikki. Our family is grieving, and we are not prepared for the high cost of a funeral service. We want to give Santino the memorial his mommy deserves, to honor her memory and say our last goodbyes," the fundraiser states.
On Facebook, others also posted tributes to "Nikki" or "Nikkie."
"My heart breaks hearing the news of your passing. You were such a strong beautiful human and amazing mother and friend," one woman posted. "I pray for Santino, I know he is so crushed. Rest in peace beautiful Nikkie!"
