MILLCREEK — An 18-year-old man was arrested Friday in connection with a fatal shooting outside a convenience store that was the result of a confrontation between two groups who fired multiple shots, according to police.

Husain Musse, 18, was arrested Friday afternoon and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of murder.

Musse is accused of causing fatal injuries to an 18-year-old man. The search for a second gunman, who allegedly injured a 19-year-old man, remained ongoing late Friday afternoon.

The confrontation unfolded about 12:30 a.m. A pickup truck and a Lexus were in the parking lot at a 7-Eleven, 4051 S. State, with multiple people in each vehicle. Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler said based on surveillance video from the store, detectives are unsure if there was any hostility happening at that time.

While the two vehicles were there, a third vehicle, another sedan, entered the parking lot. A fourth vehicle, another pickup truck, at some point also came into the area, Cutler said. At least eight people got out of the two other vehicles and some of them went inside the store.

According to the store clerk, moments after the group walked back outside into the parking lot, multiple shots were fired, Cutler said. Investigators believe gunshots were exchanged between the two groups rather than one side firing at the other, though that was not confirmed as of Friday morning. Different types of shell casings were recovered at the scene, Cutler said.

Talib Ahmed, 18, was shot and put into the back of the Lexus by his friends who took him to Intermountain Medical Center. The friends dropped Ahmed off and then fled, Cutler said. Ahmed was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officers who responded to the store found a 19-year-old man who had also been shot and was still in the parking lot, Cutler said. That man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. One of the two pickup trucks involved in the incident was still at the store when police arrived.

About 7:50 a.m., Unified police detectives spotted a Lexus near 3900 South and 300 East. An unknown number of people were taken into custody and questioned and the vehicle was seized. It was later determined, however, neither the group nor the vehicle were involved in the 7-Eleven shooting and all were released.
