SALT LAKE CITY — Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson said early results from Tuesday's general election will not be released until all polling locations close for the night and everyone in line on time has voted.

"Eligible voters deserve the opportunity to cast their ballots without outside influence, including data from preliminary results," Henderson said in a statement Monday on the night before Election Day.

In anticipation of long lines, Henderson instructed Utah's 29 county clerks not to post results until they confirm all voters who were in line by 8 p.m. have cast their ballots.

If there are no long lines, the results will go live at 8 p.m. as planned.

"While I'm hopeful early election results will go live shortly after polls close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, this guidance may impact the release timeline for results in Utah," Henderson said.

Monday was the last day to have ballots postmarked to return via mail, but they can still be dropped off at ballot drop boxes until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

After Tuesday, people watching the elections can expect daily updates at 5 p.m. until the final state-wide canvass and counties will upload preliminary results to electionresults.utah.gov.
